Julia Donaldson, Cressida Cowell and Alexander Armstrong were all present at the National Literacy Trust’s annual gala dinner, in which the charity raised £218,000 to promote literacy among children and adults.

Held at the Bloomsbury Ballroom in London on 20th March, the event brought together publishers, businesses, authors and ambassadors. Charlie Higson, Adele Parks and Axel Scheffler were among the guests to attend the event, alongside supporters from Amazon, WHSmith and Bloomberg, as well as publishers Penguin Random House, Pan Macmillan and Simon & Schuster.

Prizes available at auction included a signed special edition copy of Malorie Blackman’s Noughts and Crosses (Penguin), framed original art by Scheffler and VIP tickets to the Queen’s Reading Room Festival.

The money raised will support people living in the UK’s most disadvantaged communities.
