Editis, the second-largest French book publisher, has acquired Delcourt, the third-largest graphic novel publisher.

The French Competition Authority gave the takeover the green light on 24th December without any conditions attached, the two publishers said in a joint statement. The deal strengthens Editis’ position in the buoyant sector of graphic novels and manga, and gives Delcourt the resources to continue its development, the statement added.

Guy Delcourt, who founded the publisher 40 years ago, remains at the helm. The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

This is Editis’ first major acquisition since it was bought by International Media Invest (IMI) in November 2023. IMI is a subsidiary of Czech Media Invest (CMI), which was founded by Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinksy, who is taking over the Royal Mail.
